Flimmer

Flimmer (Flying Swimmer) is an adaption of the Naval Research Laboratory's WANDA Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) designed to move the UUV quickly (57 miles per hour) between locations.  The WANDA's rear swimming fins are mounted on the edges of the Flimmer's wings acting as vertical stabilizers while the aircraft is in flight.

The flying WANDA variant has been tested at least four times above the Potomac River. Flimmer could be used for environmental monitoring. A future version of the vehicle may have utility for anti-submarine warfare missions.
